The NQT Support Programme is designed to support Newly Qualified Teachers to meet the Teachers’ Standards by the end of their first year in the profession. It builds on from Initial Teacher Training, and provides developmental opportunities for NQTs to continually improve classroom practice through a blend of face-to-face training, reading, reflection, action research and observing learning and teaching. The programme is informed by national and international research and innovative local practice to enable NQTs to show real impact in improving outcomes for young people.
WHO IS THE PROGRAMME FOR?
Any teacher in England undertaking their NQT year.
The intensive programme of training and support consists of:
A central orientation day offering personalisation and planning for progression
Focused coaching and mentoring by experienced and highly skilled teachers
Monthly tutorials in small groups to cover a wide range of training, including quality of teaching and assessment, working with adults within and beyond school, data reviews, behaviour management for learning relationships with pupils, creating inclusive classrooms, parent evenings and report writing, trips planning, providing pastoral support and character development
A visit to an outstanding school
3 seminars per year with themes that are selected by the NQTs and participating schools
Subject specialist learning aimed at continuous improvement and enhancement of subject knowledge
An action research project allowing the NQTs to develop leadership expertise in a chosen area
Personalised careers guidance and pathways planning
Three terms of full time employment.
The College is offering the programme in Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Bradford, Birmingham and London.
